The Michigan Department of Transportation will open bids on 71 calls at its Nov. 6, 2026 letting in Lansing, according to MDOT's Notice of Advertisement. The calls were advertised between Sept. 25 and Oct. 16.

The notice gives each call's contract ID, a description of the work and its location, the required DBE and Small Business Program participation, the prequalification classification a prime needs, the completion date and any warranty. It does not list estimates.

Where

Wayne County has the most calls, with nine, followed by Kent (6), Oakland, Macomb and Ingham (5 each, counting calls that span two counties), and Kalamazoo and Grand Traverse (4 each). The rest are spread across the Lower and Upper Peninsulas, including two each in Keweenaw and Delta counties.

Local agency work

Forty of the 71 calls are labeled local agency projects. These are city, county and village projects that MDOT lets on behalf of local agencies, often because they use federal funds. Examples in Wayne County include traffic signal modernization and sidewalk upgrades on Beech-Daly Road at Seven Mile Road, on Cherry Hill Road at Wildwood Street in Westland, and on Goddard Road at Reeck Road in Allen Park and Southgate.

What kind of work

Pavement markings appear in 40 call descriptions and hot mix asphalt in 37. Sidewalk work appears in 23, bridge work in 14 and traffic signals in 13. The longest call by length is 45.35 miles of crack sealing on various routes in Luce County.

Notable trunkline calls include:

  • Call 001, Oakland County: bridge rehabilitation including partial deck, beam, superstructure, railing and pin replacement on I-96 eastbound over Milford Road. SBP goal 3%. Completion Nov. 1, 2027.
  • Call 002, Kalamazoo County: bridge rehabilitation on M-96 over the Kalamazoo River, with deep overlay, partial deck replacement and partial painting, plus a 2-year concrete surface coating warranty.
  • Call 003, Wayne County: 1.12 miles of resurfacing, curb, gutter and sidewalk on M-85 (Fort Street) from Rosa Parks Boulevard to Griswold Street in Detroit, with a 5-year pavement warranty and a 2% DBE goal.
  • Call 004, St. Clair County: 0.40 miles of reconstruction with storm and sanitary sewer, watermain, signal upgrades and bridge rehabilitation on I-94 Business Loop from the Black River to Glenwood Avenue in Port Huron, with a 4% DBE goal and completion in September 2030.
  • Call 013, Wayne County: 4.89 miles of resurfacing, joint repairs and concrete ramp upgrades on US-24, with a 5% SBP goal.

Goals

Twenty-two calls have a DBE goal, ranging from 2% to 8%. Eighteen have an SBP goal, from 3% to 8%. Thirty-one calls have neither. One call, 1.76 miles of tree removal on US-12 in the city of Wayne, is a Small Business Program project: the notice says only firms approved by MDOT as a small business may be eligible to bid it as prime.

Warranties and timing

Seventeen calls include a warranty, most commonly a 5-year materials and workmanship pavement warranty. Fifty-nine calls have 2027 completion dates, seven run into 2028, two into 2029 and two into 2030. One small local agency call in Springfield, Calhoun County, gives 45 calendar days instead of a date.

How to bid MDOT work

Each call in MDOT's Notice of Advertisement states the net prequalification classification a prime contractor needs. Where a project also includes subclassifications, the notice says a prime that is not prequalified in them must use prequalified subcontractors, designated before award. Each call also lists the required DBE participation and the required Small Business Program (SBP) participation, the completion date and any warranties, and says to see the proposal for bidder guaranty information. Proposals and plans are available online through MDOT's eProposal system, and MDOT's lettings are held at 425 W. Ottawa St. in Lansing at 10:30 a.m. local time. Public contracts over $50,000 require payment and performance bonds under MCL 129.201.

All 71 calls are on this site's bids page and county hubs. Results will be added after MDOT posts them.
